Technical guide
NBR 9734 and NBR 9735 Emergency Kit
This guide sets out practical criteria for evaluating an environmental emergency kit in operations at risk of spills. The aim is to support technical purchasing based on the liquid type, operational scenario and required response.
The Mantas Brasil team can guide the kit's contents according to the application, including absorbents and support items for initial response, containment and organization of the emergency point.
When to evaluate an emergency kit
Areas involving refueling, maintenance or transfer of oil and petroleum products
Locations at risk of dripping, localized leaks or accidental spills
Operations requiring an internal environmental readiness standard
Routine activities requiring support for SSMA/EHS and internal audits
How to determine contents and quantities
- Identify the liquid type and predominant operational risk.
- Estimate the potential area and volume for initial response.
- Determine whether use will be on a floor, outdoors, in water or in a confined location.
- Assess incident frequency and the replenishment strategy.
- Finalize codes and quantities with technical support before the final quote.
For acids, bases and aggressive chemicals, the assessment should consider the green line and dedicated technical guidance.
