What is an environmental protection kit?
An environmental protection kit combines absorbents and accessories for initial spill response. It prevents the team from having to rely on improvised materials when a leak occurs.
The contents may vary according to the liquid, estimated volume, location of use and operational needs.
- Absorbent pads.
- Absorbent socks or booms.
- Disposal bags and accessories.
- PPE according to the application.
02
How to choose the right kit
Selection starts with the liquid: oil and petroleum products normally use the white line; aggressive chemicals and other chemicals require a compatible line, such as the green line. Then assess volume, distance to the response station and frequency of exposure to risk.
- Liquid type.
- Estimated volume.
- Application location.
- Number of critical locations.
- Replenishment after use.
03
Where to position environmental kits
The kit should be visible and accessible, near fueling areas, maintenance areas, docks, yards, tanks, storage areas and locations with a history of leaks.
- Logistics yards.
- Workshops and maintenance.
- Storage areas.
- Fuel stations.
- Ports and docks.
